All About Mrs. Paterna
Qualifications:
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in English and Certificate of Secondary Education from Rowan University after transferring from Monmouth University and my Master's Degree in English: Teaching, Writing, and Criticism from West Chester University. I am a fellow of the Pennsylvania Writing and Literature Project (PAWLP), affiliated with the National Writing Project, which means I am a writing consultant for teachers, can facilitate Young Writers & Young Readers Camps, and have done so for two years here at the middle school during the summer. I am currently working towards my Supervisor's Certificate at Rowan University, own a proofreading, editing, criticism, and consultation company called The Writing Emergency Room, steward a Little Free Library, serve as the Executive Director or a non-profit charity and dragon boat team, tutor, and serve on the Board of Education in Greenwich Township.
Professional Background:
I have taught English at West Deptford High School and seventh grade and eighth grade Language Arts here at the middle school for nineteen years, was a contributor to South Jersey Mom Magazine, and edit everything from college application essays to grad students' thesis to professors' research in my editing business. I'm also a travel agent and authorized Disney travel planner.
In My Spare Time...
I enjoy spending time with my husband, two children, Aussie Doodle, Mastiff/German Shepherd mix, two Maine Coon cats, transient stray animal population, exercising, reading, being "down the shore," and being creative! I recently took up horseback riding as an adult and look forward to competing in my first show in the Fall. I look forward to sharing my passion for reading and writing with you this year, and hopefully, you will develop a soft spot in your heart for Language Arts, too!
